A Season-by-Season Guide to Ecological Gardening with Cathy Weston In-Person

Join us in partnership with Chatham Conservation Foundation, Inc. (CCF), as we welcome local gardener and Trustee of the CCF, Cathy Weston to share a season-by-season guide to ecological gardening. The surge in interest in native plants and eco-friendly gardening is a wonderful thing.
But as home gardeners transition to ecological gardening, there is a whole new world of
native plants and gardening practices to learn.

In this session we will focus on a season-by-season approach to increasing the biodiversity within the home garden. Attendees will learn what the birds, bees, and pollinators need from the garden each season and the best native plants and gardening practices will help meet those needs. We will discuss how to layer native plants into existing home gardens, and attendees will receive a handout with plant lists and practical resources to help them become a more ecological gardener.

After a business career and a lifetime of traditional gardening, Cathy refocused to become an ecological designer and native-plant landscape designer. She completed a Certificate in Native Plant Horticulture and Design from the Native Plant Trust and is currently in the process of restoring her 2-acre property, former farmland, to a coastal woodland and pollinator garden. She writes a blog www.goldenrodgarden.com about her experiences as an ecological gardener. In addition to her own gardening, she is a Trustee at the Chatham Conservation Foundation, the land trust serving Chatham MA, where she works on habitat restorations, including the Mayo House mini-meadow and the entrance path to the Mill Pond Overlook trail. She volunteers with the horticulture staff at the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy in Boston, and she serves on the Board of the Friends of Sylvan Gardens, a conservation area in Chatham, MA.

The Chatham Conservation Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit, donor supported, community land trust that preserves open space in perpetuity for the benefit of the people, plants, animals, and ecosystems of Chatham, through acquisition, stewardship, education and advocacy.
