Bloomsday Celebration In-Person
June 16, 1904, is the single day depicted in James Joyce’s masterpiece, Ulysses. Bloomsday is celebrated annually all around the world. For the 121st anniversary of Bloomsday, participate in Chatham’s own celebration at Eldredge Public Library, led by Daniel Burt.
Join us for an afternoon celebration of James Joyce and his monumental novel, Ulysses. This Bloomsday, we'll gather for selected readings, a costumed stroll through our own version of Dublin, and reflections on literature, Ireland, and the day that changed the modern novel forever.
Suggested Attire: Edwardian /1904-themed costumes encouraged! Bring your copy of Ulysses and/or a favorite passage for the reading.
Daniel teaches at Northeastern, Bridgewater, and Cape Cod Community College. He lives in South Chatham with his wife and writer Debby Felder. Together they have led small group tours of Ireland focused on literature, history, and culture for the last decade. He is the author of several books, including The Literary 100, The Novel 100, and The Drama 100, as well as with Debby Felder The Handy Literature Answer Book.
