Join us for the first monthly installment of the Adult Safety Series with the Chatham Fire Department, led by CFD Fire Safety Educator, Rachel McGrath! This month, we will be learning about adult fire and life safety.
This series is hosted in partnership with the Chatham Center for Active Living. Thank you to the CFAL for providing light refreshments during the series!
Is your home safe from fires? Please join us for an important class that could save your life! Home Fire Safety For Adults is an NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) presentation geared towards older adults to find ways to stay safer in their homes. This one hour lecture includes eight essential fire safety messages with a screen presentation, take home educational aids and free giveaways. All are welcome!
Rachel McGrath is a career Firefighter/Paramedic working for the town of Chatham, MA since 2016. Prior to her current position, she worked for two years in the same job at the Wellfleet Fire Department. As part of her training in Wellfleet, she chose to pursue certification as a Fire and Life Safety Educator. The Fire and Life Safety Educators work within the S.A.F.E. (Student Awareness of Fire Education) program which is funded by a grant through the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services and utilizes the science-based guidelines of
the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). During Rachel’s career in Chatham, a position became available and she was promoted to Senior Safe Educator in 2022. Since that time, Rachel has been giving lectures at the Chatham Community Center and the Chatham Center for Active Living, offering Home Safety Surveys, installing residential lock boxes and address markers as well as participating in Community Risk Reduction forums. She remains current with the best practices in safety by attending trainings such as the annual Public Fire and Life Safety Education conferences and she works in conjunction with the school-based S.A.F.E. educator in the Chatham Fire Department.
