Adult Safety Series with the Chatham Fire Department: Steps to Safety, Fall Prevention For Adults In-Person
Join us for the September installment of the monthly Adult Safety Series with the Chatham Fire Department, led by CFD Educator and Firefighter/Paramedic, Rachel McGrath! This month, we will be learning about fall prevention for adults. This series is hosted in partnership with the Chatham Center for Active Living. Thank you to the CFAL for providing light refreshments during the series!
Are you or someone you know at risk for falling? This one-hour presentation is geared toward the older adult population, for whom even one fall can be devastating! Let’s talk about some ways to make our homes safer and reduce the risk. Preventing that first fall is the goal, and there are some great ways to do just that. Please join us and share ideas, and take home some free giveaways as well!
Rachel McGrath is a career Firefighter/Paramedic working for the town of Chatham, MA since 2016. Prior to her current position, she worked for two years in the same job at the Wellfleet Fire Department. As part of her training in Wellfleet, she chose to pursue certification as a Fire and Life Safety Educator. The Fire and Life Safety Educators work within the S.A.F.E. (Student Awareness of Fire Education) program which is funded by a grant through the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services and utilizes the science-based guidelines of
the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). During Rachel’s career in Chatham, a position became available and she was promoted to Senior Safe Educator in 2022. Since that time, Rachel has been giving lectures at the Chatham Community Center and the Chatham Center for Active Living, offering Home Safety Surveys, installing residential lock boxes and address markers as well as participating in Community Risk Reduction forums. She remains current with the best practices in safety by attending trainings such as the annual Public Fire and Life Safety Education conferences and she works in conjunction with the school-based S.A.F.E. educator in the Chatham Fire
Department.
Rachel can be reached by calling CFD at 5089452324 or by email at rmcgrath@chatham-ma.gov.
